Use Map view to switch smoothly between two complementary perspectives.
The default view uses proportional values across the full observed range. Use Value scaling to apply a Square-root or Normalised log transformation and select Full range, P99.9 or P99 as the outlier limit.
These settings change the visual representation of height and colour; they do not alter the underlying source data.
The analysis uses pseudonymised data from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), aggregated into 300 × 300 metre grid cells. Values refer to the 2023 calendar year and are expressed per resident, including residents of all ages.
Cells containing fewer than ten residents are excluded. The retained cells represent approximately 98% of the population, or 17,459,358 residents. This exclusion may slightly underestimate inequality if sparsely populated areas differ systematically from the rest of the country.

Use the Map view control to switch between two perspectives.
By default, the maps display proportional values across the full observed range, without a transformation or outlier limit. This preserves the real scale of inequality, but extreme values may dominate the map's height and colour.
Use Value scaling to apply a Square-root or Normalised log transformation. Choose Full range for no outlier limit, P99.9 to limit the top 0.1%, or P99 to limit the top 1%.
Switch between the 3D and 2D views with the view control in the toolbar. Use 3D to compare cell heights and 2D to have a better look at their spatial patterns.

This project examines the spatial distribution of income and wealth in the Netherlands using pseudonymised individual-level register data for residents recorded in 2023. The analytical dataset combines multiple sources made available by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
Residential contexts are represented by 300 × 300 metre grid cells. The displayed values are aggregated spatial measures; the maps do not contain information that identifies individual residents.
To protect privacy, every cell containing fewer than ten residents is excluded. The retained cells represent approximately 98% of the population, or 17,459,358 residents.
This privacy filter should be considered when interpreting the results. Excluding sparsely populated cells may underestimate inequality as affluent households are concentrated in low-density locations.
Both measures are expressed per resident using the full population living in each retained cell, including children and adults. All measures refer to the full 2023 calendar year.
